LAS VEGAS -- Clark County School District Superintendent Dwight Jones has officially left his job leading the county's public school system.

Jones announced his resignation earlier this month, saying he wanted to take care of his sick mother. Before he stepped down, a video was posted on the school district's website of him discussing the school district's future.

The district is now in the middle of a nationwide search to replace Jones, which could end up costing about $50,000.

The school district hopes to have a new superintendent in place between October and December.

Until then, deputy superintendent Pat Skorkowsy has temporarily taken over the role.
