8 on Your Side Helps Man Cancel Trash Service

LAS VEGAS - When David Young's tenants moved out of his home in September 2012, they turned off the water and the electricity. Young also wanted to cancel the trash pick-up service. He called Republic Services and was told he needed to provide proof the water and power were turned off.

"It's ludicrous. It's crazy," he said.

He called NV Energy. "The power company says, ‘The power isn't in your name, so I can't give you proof,'" he recalled.

So, he tried the Las Vegas Valley Water District. "Same thing, they say, ‘We can't give you proof, because it wasn't in your name,'" Young said.

Republic wouldn't stop charging him for the trash service he wasn't receiving. This fight went on for five months. Frustrated, Young contacted 8 on Your Side.

"I see stories all the time about you guys helping people, and I thought maybe you can help me," he said.

8 on Your Side talked to Republic Services representatives and got the matter resolved. Republic Services stopped Young's trash service and wiped his bill of any outstanding charges. Republic Services is now working with NV Energy and the Las Vegas Valley Water District to fix this glitch.
