LAS VEGAS -- The 17-year-old girl found dead in the middle of a street Sunday has been identified as Alexis Monasterio by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The teen's body was found near Charleston Boulevard and Stillwater Bridge Street.

Metro Police are asking for the public's help to find the driver responsible for the death of Monasterio.

Her friends and classmates huddled together in the parking lot Sunday night at East Career and Technical Academy to recall happy memories of Monasterio.

"Thinking about who she was and who she should have been, I keep saying this isn't right. She was so pretty, so smart, so full of life," one friend said.

Friends of the culinary student said the teen was a great baker, loved acting and was involved in many activities.

Metro Police said the teen was hit by a car as she was crossing the street. Passersby where the ones who called police. Strangers have since placed candles near where the girl was hit.

Family members told 8 News NOW the coroner told them the cause of death was head trauma and road rash, injuries more consistent with being pushed out of a car.

Those who knew her best say they still haven't come to grips with her loss. They said they hope the person who killed Monasterio comes forward and takes responsibility for the accident.
