Rollover Crash Sends Family to Hospital

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- A family of six is in the hospital after an unusual crash near the entrance of Springs Preserve.

Five minors and one adult were transported to University Medical Center with injuries ranging from serious to critical.

Police said the driver, a 16-year-old boy, was with his mother, 37-year-old Blanca Arreola, in the passenger seat and four siblings in the back, aged 3 through 15.

Richard Tusko, with Metro Police said, "They hit the dip, lost control, went through the gate at the Springs Preserve, causing it to role over onto its roof."

Metro Police said the same vehicle has ties to a hit-and-run that happened just minutes before in the parking lot of a Toys-R-Us at Meadows Lane and Decatur Boulevard.

Police said a woman in the parking lot was hit by the teen driver. The woman said he then drove away and she decided to follow.

"He was leaving the collision the he caused back at the Toys-R-Us. He didn't make contact with the driver, just fled as soon as he struck the front of her car," said Tusko.

Police said they don't know why the juvenile decided to leave, but don't believe alcohol or drugs played a role in his erratic behavior.

"She was following behind him and she pulled over and attempted to render aid when the vehicle flipped over," said Tusko.

Police said this accident was 100 percent avoidable, and the teen could now face a slew of charges-- including reckless driving.
