LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police officers are investigating a fatal traffic collision between a car and an RTC bus at Sandhill Road and East Owens Avenue in the northeast valley Friday night.
According to Metro Police, the male driver of the Nissan slammed into the rear of the bus leaving him trapped inside. He eventually died. One person on the bus bumped their head, but sustained no other injuries.
"We don't see a lot of weather out here in southern Nevada so when it does happen, people forget these roads are like ice, because the oil comes up to the top of the roadway and need to slow down," Metro Police Sgt. Richard Strader said.
The force of the impact was so great that it pushed the tires on the right side of the bus onto the sidewalk according to detectives.
Metro Police detectives said speed, combined with the wet weather, were factors in the crash.
This is the 24th fatal crash in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
