LAS VEGAS -- A former mail sorter for the U.S. Postal Service who stole credit and debit card information from the mail received a two-year prison sentence Tuesday, Nevada's U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said.
Jerome Harvey, 34, of Las Vegas, pleaded guilty in November to one count of aggravated identity theft. The sentence from Senior U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson also included $5,951 in restitution.
According to the plea agreement, Harvey sorted mail in Las Vegas from May to July 2011. He stole information belonging to 12 individuals, which he used for access to their financial accounts and other things of value.
Harvey is free on a personal recognizance bond, and was permitted to self-report to federal prison by June 7.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina Brown.
