LAS VEGAS -- The son of the taxi cab driver killed following a shooting and crash on the Las Vegas Strip has filed a civil lawsuit against suspect Ammar Harris.
Michael Boldon, a cab driver, was killed in a fiery crash on the Strip on Feb. 21, 2013. The lawsuit was filed by his son, also named, Michael Boldon. The suit names Harris and Roe Business Entities which owned and leased the Range Rover to Harris. It also includes unnamed defendants who were involved in the dispute which led to the vehicle chase.
Harris was arrested in Los Angeles last week. He is facing three charges of murder in the triple killings.
Metro Police said Harris opened fire from his Range Rover at a Maserati being driven by aspiring rapper Kenneth Cherry Jr. following a dispute at a nearby hotel property. Cherry lost control of his car and crashed into several vehicles, including the cab which exploded, killing Boldon and his passenger, a woman from Washington.
According to the suit, Harris "failed to drive in a manner reasonable and safe under the conditions."
The suit also alleges the taxi driven by Boldon was defective in its design. According to the suit, once the correct identities of the business entities are known, they will be added to the suit.
"Why did that cab explode like it had a bomb in it? A car doesn't just explode like that, only in the movies and this is not movie, it's sadly and tragically real life," Lawrence Smith, the attorney representing the Boldon family.
The suit requests Boldon's son be compensated in excess of $10,000 for grief, sorrow, pain and suffering experienced by his father, and funeral expenses.
