LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Regulators in Las Vegas are authorizing more cabs on the road after drivers with the city's second largest cab company walked off the job.
Nevada Taxicab Authority Administrator Charles Harvey authorized 20 additional permits Monday for each of the 13 other cab companies operating in Clark County.
If the companies use all of them, that would mean 260 more cabs in service.
The drivers' union at Yellow-Checker-Star launched a strike at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, after they say the company imposed a contract rejected by 70 percent of union members.
Union officials say about three-quarters of the company's drivers are union members.
Officials with the taxicab authority say they haven't received reports of disruptions, but are issuing extra permits as a precaution to ensure there are enough cabs to accommodate riders.
