HENDERSON, Nev. -- In just one week, an entirely new kind of theater is making its debut in Henderson.

At Galaxy Green Valley, the theater aims to combine the magic of the movies with the comfort of home, Galaxy theater regional manager A.J. Witherspoon said.

The theater has reclining chairs and a the concession stand that will sell beer and wine.

Witherspoon said the theater hopes to attract up to 400,000 people each year and if the moviegoers enjoy the show, they could bring traffic to nearby businesses, too.

The recession left half of the retail space empty inside Green Valley Town Center and business owners said they hope the new tenant can change that.

Sonja McDonald opened Dipsticks Bakery six months ago next door to the theater and said she has been counting the days to opening weekend.

"I just want to see more people in here," she said. "It would help get a lot more foot traffic."

More foot traffic and more business for a shopping complex that is trying to get back in the spotlight.

"We are confident there's nothing like this in Las Vegas," Witherspoon said. "Once the locals find out how great of an experience this is, it's going to be a hit."

Witherspoon said that despite the extra amenities, their ticket prices won't cost any more than what other movie houses in town charge.

Seats can also be reserved ahead of time for no extra charge.
