LAS VEGAS  -- The ex-convict fugitive who was killed in a gunfight that left an FBI officer wounded Tuesday has been identified.

The FBI identified the fugitive as 32-year-old Javier Solomon Reyes. He was wanted for robbery with a deadly weapon and was the suspect in several carjackings, according to the FBI. Police had been looking for him since the end of December when he was accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend.

Reyes died overnight of wounds he received in the gunfight with a regional criminal apprehension team chasing him through a Las Vegas neighborhood.

FBI Agent Patrick Turner said Wednesday that an FBI agent was shot once in the chest and once in the back during the exchange of gunfire. But he was protected by a ballistic vest.

The agent was treated and released from a hospital overnight. He has not been identified.

The shooting happened about 3 p.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood northeast of downtown Las Vegas.
