LAS VEGAS -- A family court judge has dissolved a protective order filed against Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks.

His wife, Ada Brooks, did not attend the hearing Tuesday afternoon and as a result the judge dissolved the order.

Brooks is now free to return to his home.

The decision follows a series of problems for the North Las Vegas lawmaker. Brooks has been arrested twice, given a psychiatric evaluation, banned from meetings with party colleagues in the Assembly and banished from the Nevada Legislature building.

An Assembly committee will consider whether to expel Brooks and prevent him from serving his elected office.
