Police Taking Extra Precautions During Hunt for Ex-Cop

LAS VEGAS -- Assistant Sheriff Greg McCurdy addressed the media Friday afternoon on the search for former Los Angeles Police Officer Christopher Dorner.

McCurdy said all Metro Police uniformed officers will be traveling in two person units as a precaution in response to the threat Dorner poses to police officers.

"When you have someone who is highly trained, highly capable, having been a police officer in the past, having prior military experience whose made threats, and you've all read about them in the manifesto, we take this very seriously," McCurdy said.

Henderson Police spokesman Keith Paul said all officers who normally patrol on motorcycle have been placed with cars until further notice. He said uniformed officers are working in pairs as staffing allows.

Dorner is accused of killing three people. He has not been seen in Las Vegas, but FBI and local law enforcement officials are keeping a close watch on the places he has ties.

Police are taking the threat seriously, McCurdy said.

FBI agents spent Thursday evening searching through Dorner's southwest Las Vegas valley home looking for clues to his next move.

"Several people were named in the manifesto, friends, we want to know who those friends are that may live in Las Vegas, so that's what we are doing," McCurdy said. "We are talking to, trying to find those people and talked to them as to what information could be gleamed that would be very beneficial to this investigation."

It doesn't appear that Dorner has been at his Las Vegas house for a few weeks, McCurdy said.
