LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas police officers are heading to the East Coast to help raise awareness of fellow officers who died in the line of duty.

More than 1,000 police officer are expected to participate in the Police Unity Tour, a 300 mile bike ride from northern New Jersey to Washington, D.C.

Money that is raised from the ride will help fund the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

"The National Law Enforcement Memorial is not funded by any tax dollars," Metro Police Sgt. Richard Strader said. "The only thing that keeps it thriving is sponsors like the Police Unity Tour and people who sponsor us through the Police Unity Tour, so it's important to us as law enforcement officers."

On Friday, local classic rock cover band Crossfire will be putting on a benefit concert with raffle prizes starting at 8 p.m. at Sam's Town on Boulder Highway. Tickets cost $15.
