LAS VEGAS -- Many Nevadans are taking steps to properly store their firearms in their homes by having gun safes professionally installed.

Discount Gun Safe Warehouse owner James Dillon spent a career fighting crime.

"There's a lot of burglaries that occur in Las Vegas, and people want to protect because somebody, or persons unauthorized, can break in, and in minutes create a lot of havoc," Dillon said.

Dillon, a former Metro Police captain, left retirement to open his gun safe warehouse.

"We have a duty and a responsibility to protect those firearms," he said. "That's part of being a responsible firearms owner, and that includes securing your firearms when you don't have them in your immediate position or carry."

Make no mistake about it, just like gun sales are booming with fears that Second Amendment rights could be restricted, the gun safe business is also a moneymaker.

"The business has picked up, especially since recent tragedy events, and with all of the discussions going on in Washington," Dillon said. "And, with the move by many of our government officials on wanting to restrict or reduce our gun rights."

Some safes are extremely high-end; even a room in your home can be turned into a vault.

"Of course, we have the gun enthusiasts," he said. "Lots of military and law enforcement. And lots of law-abiding citizens that have various gun collections, whether it be one gun, up to many guns, 50, 100, or even more."

With more Nevadans sticking to their guns in the current political climate, some might feel the need for more than just one place to store their firearms.

"Based on that concern, a lot of them are coming in and buying a second, third or fourth gun safe," he said.

Home safes range in price from $395 to $8,000.
