Las Vegas City Jobs Attract Hundreds of Applicants

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS --  City jobs are definitely coveted positions even when there's only a few available openings.

More than 600 applicants sought out less than 10 Las Vegas city jobs on Wednesday. The line of applicants stretched around City Hall. The city was hiring for city marshal and correction officer positions.

Las Vegas city spokesman Jace Radke said, city jobs attract a lot of applicants because of the pay and benefits.

Las Vegas native Josephine Cheung is currently employed but looking for a better career.

"I'd like to wish everybody that's here good luck on the test and hopefully they'll get a job with the department," she said.

In 2008 and 2009, the city cut costs by laying off 200 workers and eliminating 400 positions.

City firefighter jobs often attract the most applicants. There are currently 2,300 city employees. Here is a link to other city jobs available.
