LAS VEGAS -- An employee from Clark County's Family Services Department has been fired in connection with the death of a Las Vegas boy.

According to DFS, the agency conducted an extensive review of policies and procedures in the case of Roderick "RJ" Arrington Jr., a 7-year-old boy who died after physical abuse. His stepfather is facing charges in the boy's death.

The department received a phone call about RJ on Nov. 28 reporting that he might be the victim of child abuse. The report was being investigated when the department heard that the boy was in a Las Vegas hospital in critical condition. He later died at the hospital of his injuries.

In a statement released Thursday, DFS also admitted said that staff was disciplined for violating policy. It is also convening a special Child Death Review Team meeting to discuss the case and see what can be learned from the tragedy.
