NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Jay Ilagan likes to play pool. In fact, he plays every day in his new home in North Las Vegas. Jay considers himself to be pretty good at the game, and his good shots involve skill, not luck.
He says he needed some luck, however, after he ordered shutters for his home.
"I was behind the eight ball, and if it wasn't for Channel 8, I'll be behind the eight ball at this point," he said.
He ordered plantation shutters from Blinds Outlet. He and his wife wanted the house to look nice, because they like to entertain.
Jay gave the owner a $2,700 deposit and was promised he'd have shutters in six weeks. Six weeks came and went, but Jay never received the shutters.
"Seventh week and no calls from them, and I started to worry," he said.
He stopped by the store for answers, but it was closed. Worried, he called 8 on Your Side for help. We found the owner and got him in touch with Jay.
"The owner said, ‘Well, you know I'm in the middle of a divorce, and I don't have any money. My wife is taking everything,'" Jay said.
Jay says he was confused as to why that had any effect on his shutters. "I said, ‘I don't care about that man. You have shutters to put in my house,'" he said.
Jay began to think he was out of luck and out of cash, but 8 on Your Side found a solution - going directly to the manufacturer.
"He said, ‘We'll get your shutters installed and settle the balance with Blinds Outlet down the road,'" Jay said.
A few days later, Jay's shutters were installed. Now, he has a happy wife - which means a happy life - and more time to play pool.
"I think it is a valuable service Channel 8 is providing the community, and that's what it is all about - making people honest," he said.
