LAS VEGAS - A Mountain's Edge resident wants to know if a long-promised bridge stretching Cactus Avenue past Rainbow Boulevard will ever be built.
The good news is steps are being taken this spring that will finally make the Cactus connection a reality for those in Mountain's Edge.
It will eventually become the Cactus overpass and extend Cactus Avenue east over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. That open east/west connection will enable folks in the southwest to finally stop driving north to Blue Diamond Road in order to head east of the tracks.
The agreement with Union Pacific took time, but it's now scheduled to go before the County Commission for approval February 5. Requesting construction funding from the Regional Transportation Commission will take the project into March.
Bidding should go out in May. If the contract is awarded, work should get underway before the end of the year. In addition to the Cactus overpass, a traffic signal at Cactus and Rainbow will be installed.
