Police Arrest 1 in Jewelry Store Robbery

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a jewelry store robbery in the 7300 block of W. Sahara Avenue Thursday night. A second man remains at large.

According to police, two men entered the jewelry store -- one of whom was armed with a handgun – and threatened a clerk, demanding cash from the register.

Another clerk, who was also carrying a handgun, confronted the robbers and gunfire was exchanged between the two, according to police.

The armed robber was hit several times, causing both suspects to run from the store.

About 30 minutes later, a man identified as Antwjan McClelland was admitted to Sunrise Hospital's trauma unit with gunshot wounds to the arm, the police said.

When robbery detectives arrived at the hospital, they arrested McClelland and booked him in absentia on charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and burglary while in possession of a firearm. He is being held without bail.

According to police, a second robber remains at large and a third person may be involved. The robber is described as a black man, standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, a white baseball cap and white shoes.
