LAS VEGAS -- Friends and family of Michelle Walters gathered to remember her life during a candlelight vigil after her husband killed her and their young son before setting their Boulder City home on fire.
Michelle Walters was involved in a program designed for kids with cancer.
People who knew Walters held their candles up high and wiped away the tears as people remembered the woman better known to them as "Wonder Woman."
Walters spent a lot of her time with the group Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation that gave kids a chance to forget they were sick. She shared with them her own battle of trying to conceive her son Max as she struggled with her own health problems.
"I loved the times we were together, and I cherish all the memories of all the things we were able to do together, the times we were together," a supporter said. "I know it was hard these past couple of years for her, being on so many medications, trying to manage her pain."
The lady known as "Wonder Woman" also protected her community as a police officer as her former partner said working with children was an outlet for her to deal with the stress of her job.
"When you are a cop, you can't walk through the mud all the time and not get any on you, and that's one of the ways she washed the mud from her soul so to speak," friend Steve Custer said. "She never wanted anything in return, not ever. I'll miss her greatly."
Henderson Police continue to investigate what happened at the Walter's Boulder City home.
No official memorial plans for Walters and her son have been announced
