LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police are looking for a home invasion suspect that attacked an elderly man with a hand saw, but they need help to solve this seemingly random crime.
Residents in Peccole Ranch are on the look out since their neighbors were targeted. Police said this was a brazen attack and want to catch the suspect before he strikes again.
It was around 7pm on January, 15th when police said a violent home invasion occurred as the suspect, believed to be in his late teens or early 20's, broke into the home armed with a saw looking for trouble.
Neighbors said one of the victims, a man in his 80's, was sliced on his hand by the robber. The suspect got away with several stolen items and police said the method of operation on this crook is a little unusual.
"The suspect went into the back yard of the residence and he brazenly broke a window. Came through the window and began to attack the homeowner," Metro Officer Marcus Martin said. "Most burglars, or most people coming into the home, want property or items and want nothing to do with somebody, yet this subject appeared not to care whether someone was home or not."
There've been other break-ins in the area recently according to residents. Homeowners have been on guard forming a neighborhood watch and made sure their alarms are working.
Resident Andrew "Doc" Nixon is watching his street more closely and said it's comforting to know police have a good idea of who attacked his neighbor, but everyone needs to stay vigilant.
"On one level its scary, there's no question about it, but on the other level, I hear a lot of anger, anger toward the perpetrator," Nixon said. "That's why it's going to be a good thing to have this person identified and hopefully caught."
Metro Police said the suspect is described as white, 5'-8" to 5'-10", skinny with brown hair.
