Young Girl Killed in Accident Near Ariz-Nev Border

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities said a 7-year-old girl is dead after a hit-and-run accident near the Arizona-Nevada border.

The accident closed one of the northbound lanes of U.S. 93 between Kingman and the Hoover Dam for hours Wednesday.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said the girl was struck on a switchback road north of U.S. 93 near the dam's recreational area.

He said her family's car was stopped on the side of the road and she reportedly darted across the street for an unknown reason.

The girl suffered severe head trauma and was flown to a Las Vegas hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her name and hometown aren't immediately available.

Graves said the SUV involved was later found in the Lake Mead area. No arrest has been made.
