LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Police say a Nevada state Assembly member had a gun in his car when he was arrested during the weekend on allegations that he threatened at least one Assembly party leader.
North Las Vegas police Sgt. Tim Bedwell wouldn't disclose the caliber of the weapon that Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks had when he was arrested Saturday, or whether it was loaded.
The revelation came after Brooks' lawyer, Mitchell Posin said Brooks was hospitalized in Las Vegas for treatment of internal bleeding, possibly related to a pre-existing condition.
Brooks never went to Carson City, where reporters gathered for a 10 a.m. Tuesday news conference that Brooks had scheduled at his Assembly office.
Posin says Brooks is innocent and that there's more to the allegations than have been reported so far.
Posin isn't providing details.
Brooks was arrested Saturday by North Las Vegas police on a charge of intimidating a public officer by threat of physical violence. He's due in court next Monday.
