MGM Hiring 700 Seasonal Workers

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- MGM Resorts has already started hiring for 700 seasonal jobs to manage the busy summer tourist season.

On Monday, more than 500 people applied for such positions as lifeguarding, bartending and serving.

Although the jobs are seasonal, the pay is above the minimum wage.

While employers say these positions are temporary, they're a great way to get your foot in the door.

Job seekers said it is a rare opportunity to get a chance to make a first impression in person since MGM typically requires a resume be submitted online.

"I just like it when you get to go out and see people instead of hiding behind the internet," jobseeker Roberto Reguindin said.

Employers at MGM said those who excel during the summer have a better shot at a permanent position.

"The key is getting some experience," said Marvella Smith of MGM Resorts. "If you're here within our organization, you already have experience, you're a great person (and) a hard worker then, yes, that can always be better to transition into a full-time job."

Training starts as early as February to prepare new workers for the summer rush.

The job fair continues Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the MGM hotel and casino.

Light nightclub is also hiring. A casting call is being held noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Mirage for bartenders, hostesses and servers.
