NRA Gun Event for Nevada Lawmakers Draws Criticism

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- With the Nevada Legislature set begin Feb. 4, and with debate raging nationally about gun violence, gun rights will be on the agenda for some state lawmakers attending an invitation-only event hosted by the National Rifle Association at a Las Vegas shooting range.

Republican State Assemblywoman Michele Fiore says she invited all 63 of Nevada's Senate and Assembly lawmakers to the Saturday event at a gun store just off the Las Vegas Strip. She thinks about half will attend.

The NRA calls it an educational effort.

But the liberal advocacy group ProgressNow Nevada calls it improper lobbying.

It wants lawmakers to stay away.

The event comes after a weapons industry trade show ends in Las Vegas, and the same day that some gun rights proponents are dubbing Gun Appreciation Day.
