LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Fire and Rescue officials confirm one person is dead and three have been injured following a house fire on Nolan Lane, near Alta Drive & Valley View Boulevard.
The fire broke out shortly after 12 a.m. Thursday morning. Investigators say a man inside the house smelled smoke and saw flames coming from a back bedroom. Two of the four men who lived in the home ran outside for help while another was still trapped.
"There's a bedroom in the front of the house, and at this time, smoke was so thick that the male couldn't get out of that window," said Tim Szymanski with Las Vegas Fire and Rescue. "So, the neighbors pulled him out through the front window."
Fire officials say heavy smoke and flames were showing when firefighters arrived. Fire crews put out the blaze within 10 minutes.
Once the fire was out, crews uncovered the body of the fourth male adult inside the home. The three injured people, all male adults, were treated for smoke inhalation and possible carbon monoxide poisoning. Their injuries are non-life-threatening.
The surviving victims told fire investigators the deceased man was bed-ridden due to an injury. The roommates say the man who died was a heavy smoker and used a space heater at night, both of which could have sparked a flame.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Clark County Coroner's Office will identify the deceased victim once next of kin have been notified.
Investigators say this is the first deadly fire of the year in Las Vegas. Last year, the first fatal fire of the year didn't come until June.
