Police: Witnesses Not Coming Forward in Teen's Death

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police said the 14-year-old boy killed early Saturday morning was attending a birthday party at an apartment in the 1400 block of E. Reno Avenue.

During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Metro Lt. Ray Steiber said 100 teenagers were attending the party, many invited through social media.

Several groups attended the party, including gang members, Steiber said.

As music played, the party became rowdy. The person who lives in the apartment asked the partygoers to leave and as the teens were leaving, about 20 shots by handguns were fired.

The 14-year-old boy, identified as Haji Mohamed, was shot and killed. An 18-year-old was also shot and, Steiber said, is lucky to be alive.

Although detectives have interviewed 40 people, the witnesses all said they don't remember what happened.

"I think there is information being withheld, and I also think and it's hard for me to believe, and probably for all of you to believe, that out of the 40 people we interviewed, and of the 100 people who attended that party, that no one saw anything?" Steiber said. "I believe people witnessed what happened."

Steiber said detectives are requesting that parents who have heard or seen anything related to the shooting to contact police.
