LAS VEGAS -- An 18-year-old man has waived his right to a preliminary trial and agreed to plead guilty after being arrested for bringing an unloaded rifle onto a school campus last month, the Clark County District Attorney's office said Tuesday.

Jake Howell was charged with five counts of possession of a dangerous weapon at a school after police found an unloaded SKS semi-automatic rifle in his car when he visited his former school, the Northwest Career and Technical Academy.

Howell's arrest came a week after the mass school shooting in Connecticut last month that left 20 children and six adults dead.

As part of the plea agreement, Howell will undergo a psychiatric evaluation. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 22.
