LAS VEGAS -- With temperatures falling, the overnight shelter at Catholic Charities is opening its doors around the clock.
Jimmy Rolson, the shelter supervisor said the cold spell in Las Vegas can cause all kinds of health problems.
"We don't want people dying out on the streets, it's important for people to have a safe place to lay and keep warm, said Rolson.
As the cold made its way into the city, Ron Bruce knew he'd have to find a place to stay...
"Last night, standing to get into the night shelter , just standing out there for 30 minutes, my fingers were starting to hurt and my toes were starting to hurt they were so cold," said Bruce.
Now, he along with many others, are spending the nights at the shelter.
"It was so cold last night, I was so grateful to be inside," said Bruce.
The shelter not only offers a place to sleep, it provides a place to shower and even get a meal.
During winter months, the shelter said the number of people that look for refuge from the cold are into the hundreds.
Just like Ron Bruce, Leo said he would have had to sleep outside if not for the shelter. Leo said he made his way to Las Vegas and wasn't prepared for such frigid temperatures.
"I was so happy, they gave me two coats," said Leo.
Both men said they know the importance of a warm place, on nights this cold.
I've had friends die in the cold. You don't want to sleep on the streets it's very cold, " said Bruce.
