LAS VEGAS -- The early flu season is leaving emergency rooms around the Las Vegas valley busy with patients experiencing virus symptoms.

Spring Valley Hospital set up a mobile medical facility Friday that will be used to help treat patients with flu symptoms. The facility is equipped with beds and medical supplies to handle 16 people. It will be staffed with hospital employees.

The mobile unit was set up at the hospital to be prepared for the influx of flu patients that are expected in the coming weeks.

The tent is part of the city of Las Vegas' Metropolitan Medical Response System. Spring Valley hospital officials asked to borrow the unit. This is the first time the mobile unit has been put into action.

"It's to prepare, we don't need it right now, but we anticipate that we may need it in the next month or two as things get a little bit more busy," said Kathleen Cornia, Spring Valley Hospital medical director.

If you have milder symptoms of the flu, or a cold, doctors suggest a visit to your family physician.
