American Gaming Association Chief to Step Down

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The man who's led the American Gaming Association since its inception in 1995 says he'll be stepping down from the post effective June 30.

Officials with the casino industry lobbying group say they had been planning for Frank Fahrenkopf's departure for two years in advance of Monday's announcement.

AGA chairman Richard Haddrill called Fahrenkopf a steady, thoughtful leader who's guided the casino industry through a period of great change.

Industry leaders noted AGA accomplishments during Fahrenkopf's term, including the establishment of the National Center for Responsible Gaming and the success of industry trade shows Global Gaming Expo and G2E Asia.

Fahrenkopf previously chaired the Republication National Committee for six of Ronald Reagan's eight years in the White House, and currently serves as co-chairman of the Commission on Presidential Debates.
