Second Pedestrian Killed in 24 Hours

LAS VEGAS -- Just after 6 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a fatal accident on Warm Springs Road near Hinson Street.

According to Metro, a man in his late 40's was crossing the street when he was struck by an SUV. The driver told police he didn't see the pedestrian who was wearing dark-colored clothing.

"Witnesses who were driving the other direction when the collision occurred basically saw the headlights flicker and knew something had happened and that's when they pulled over," said Sergeant Richard Strader, with Metro Police.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they do not believe the driver of the SUV was impaired or driving over the posted speed limit. The driver is not facing any charges at this time.

Sergeant Strader urges people traveling by foot to use a crosswalk and use bright colored clothing.

The area where Saturday night's accident occurred is a rural area of the Southwest Valley with no crosswalks or streetlights.
