LAS VEGAS - If you hate robocalls, the Federal Trade Commission wants your help to get rid of them for good, and you could win $50,000 in the process.
The FTC is running a contest called the FTC Robocall Challenge. The agency is looking for technological solutions to the problem of illegal robocalls. The solutions should be able to block robocalls on landlines and mobile phones and operate on a proprietary or non-proprietary device or platform.
The winning solution will be chosen April 15th and earn its creator a grand prize of $50,000. The deadline for submission is January 17th.
The FTC receives millions of complaints about robocalls every year. Technology has made it possible for thousands of robocalls to be made every minute in Nevada.
While FTC officials say they have stopped many companies that use robocalls to annoy, and in some cases swindle, unsuspecting Americans, they admit they haven't done enough and are asking the public for help.
In addition to the cash prize, the winning entrant will receive opportunities for promotion, exposure and recognition by the FTC. They will also retain ownership of their solutions.
