LAS VEGAS -- A man wanted in Texas shot and killed himself while being chased by Metro Police officers Wednesday morning.
The shooting took place about 9:25 a.m. at a motel in the 4200 block of Koval Lane, near Flamingo Road. Police said the man was wanted for a murder in San Antonio.
Metro said no officers were injured.
The U.S. Marshal's office identified the man as Nadara Goodrum, 33, of San Antonio. According to police records, he had at least four arrests in Texas, including two for family violence. On Thursday, police said he killed his pregnant wife, Cindy, outside their San Antonio home.
According to the police, Goodrum dragged her by the hair inside the house, where his wife was able to trigger panic alarms. Before help could arrive, the police said Goodrum shot and killed Cindy Goodrum, an emergency room nurse who was four months pregnant.
Friends of the couple said they also had a 6-year-old son.
"It's painful to see the result of somebody who's unstable's actions," said Angeline Rivera, a friend of Cindy Goodrum, of her death. "If there's anyway we could have prevented it, we would have."
A Marshal's task force, made up of local, state and federal agents, tracked Goodrum to Las Vegas. Officers waiting at the Super 8 Motel moved in to arrest Goodrum Wednesday morning when the fugitive shot and killed himself.
"Once confronted with law enforcement, this individual fled on foot, produced a handgun, and inflicted one gunshot wound, which this individual apparently died from," Metro officer Bill Cassell said.
Police initially described the situation as an officer-involved shooting, but police Capt. Chris Jones clarified that no shots were fired besides the one the suspect inflicted on himself.
Jones said he had no details on the underlying murder case from Texas.
