LAS VEGAS -- A Las Vegas man is facing murder charges in the killings of two people at an elderly group home where he was living.
David Settle, 68, was arrested Sunday at the assisted living group home at 3709 W. Washington Ave. Police were called to the home by a resident who awoke and told police she found two bodies.
Police say 82-year-old Henry Namett, a resident at the home, and 59-year-old Elenita Ablao, a caregiver were beaten to death with a hammer.
According to the arrest report, Settle admitted to police he hit both victims approximately 20 times in the head with a hammer. He told police he had no explanation as to why he killed them. Settle told police, Namett would smile and wave at him and Ablao cooked his meals and that he liked both of them. Settle did tell police he was an alcoholic and had not been taken to his AA meetings and felt the owner of the home might be taking financial advantage of him.
After the attacks on both victims, Settle said he went to store and bought cigars and wine. According to the arrest report, he told police he cut his ankles with a knife and took the wine bottle and hammer and hit himself in the head in an attempt to kill himself.
When police arrive at the home, they found Settle in bed wearing only a diaper.
