LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County coroner has identified the body of the girl found Thursday in North Las Vegas as 10-year-old Jade Morris.

The girl died from multiple stab wounds and cuts, according to the county. Her death was ruled a homicide. She was identified by facial recognition, clothing and dental records. A DNA analysis is pending.

"Of course our sympathies go to the family in this very very difficult time," Clark County Coroner Mike Murphy said.

Jade had been missing since last Friday and was last seen by her family with Brenda Stokes, the on-again, off-again girlfriend of Jade's father.

A passer-by had discovered her body near N. Fifth Street and Deer Springs Way.

Jade's mother, Te'Juana Reeves, said, "I'm here for justice and I'll be here every step of the way."

Stokes, who also goes by the name Brenda Wilson, is being held at the Clark County Detention Center after being accused of slashing a coworker with razor blades at the Bellagio casino last Friday. She is being held on $600,000 bond.

According to Metro Police investigators, blood was found on Stokes' clothes and on the inside and outside of her car.

Nearby where Jade's body was found, family and friends have set up a memorial and the Christmas tree the girl never got to see.

"We're kind of speechless," said Jade's grandfather, Phil Tucker. "It's like we're moving in slow motion."

Stokes has been uncooperative with investigators looking into Jade's disappearance, the police said.
