Missing Girl Last Seen with Slashing Suspect

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The search is on for a 10-year-old girl who was last seen with a woman suspected of slashing a co-worker at the Bellagio.

Jade Morris has been missing for five days. Her family says homicide investigators are now involved in the case.

Morris was supposed to go holiday shopping with her father's on-again, off-again girlfriend, Brenda Stokes also known as Brenda Wilson. Stokes is now behind bars charged with a stabbing that occurred at the Bellagio on Friday and there is no sign of the little girl.

Family members say the 10-year-old is a vivacious performer and is never afraid to speak her mind, or ask for help.

"She would walk up to someone if she needed to and ask someone, 'Can I use your telephone to call my mommy?'" Jade Morris' mother Te'Juana Reeves said.

Family members say homicide detectives are taking over the investigation into what might have happened to Jade. Her mom said, Stokes picked Jade up on Friday evening but never brought her home.

Investigators say Stokes stabbed another woman at the Bellagio Friday at the same time she was supposed to be shopping with Jade. Police say there was no child with Stokes when she was arrested.

Stokes made her first court appearance Wednesday morning.

"They said there was no child with her at all and they didn't know where she was," Reeves said.

Family members say Stokes has offered no information as to where Jade may be.

The girl's father, Philip Morris, said it was tough to face his longtime girlfriend in court. He said Stokes and his daughter had a loving relationship and he has never had a reason not to trust her with his child.

"I feel broken. Because my heart is broken ... someone took my baby and won't give her back," Reeves said.

Jade's stocking still hangs on the mantle full of Christmas gifts.
