Child Haven Provides Holiday Cheer for Foster Kids

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - Christmas carols ring out at Child Haven. As many kids across the valley race to open presents, these children receive gifts donated from people throughout the community.

Many kids come to Child Haven after they were removed from their original families.

"It's a difficult transition for kids anytime that it happens. Around the holidays, it's particularly tough," said Child Haven Manager Jolie Courtney.

The facility always takes kids and holds as many as 25. Some even come in on Christmas. Child Haven works to get kids to families or homes, even on a holiday.

"We actually have people today that would be calling foster homes and trying to set up foster homes, even on Christmas Day," Courtney said.

The facility often receives items - such as toys - for younger kids. Organizers say what they really need are items for teens – some of which you wouldn't expect.

"Enough clothing for them is always a struggle for us. Pajamas, we're always running out of pajamas, and this time of year – coats," Courtney said.

While the temperatures drop outside, the warmth of the holiday is happening inside. Full of caring staff, Child Haven works to ensure the kids have the best possible holiday.
