1 Dead, 2 Hurt in Northwest Apartment Shooting

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- A Monday morning shooting in the northwest part of the Las Vegas valley left one person dead and three others at-large.

Police Lt. Ray Steiber said a man and woman in the apartment were hurt, but not by gunfire, and an infant girl escaped injury in the shooting a little after 10 a.m. Monday at the residence off Rainbow Boulevard near Cheyenne Avenue.

According to police, four people knocked on an apartment's front door for an unknown reason at La Ventana Apartments in the 2900 block of N. Rainbow Boulevard.

At least one person in the apartment and one of the suspects began shooting at each other. One of the suspects was hit and transported to the trauma unit at University Medical Center where he later died.

The three other suspects are at-large and could be armed, the police said. Investigators are trying to determine the relationship between the residents and the suspects.

A motive for the attempted break-in wasn't immediately determined.

Steiber said the suspects abandoned a silver car at the shooting scene.
