LAS VEGAS -- Two people are under arrest in connection with a string of armed robberies and an officer-involved shooting.
Police have arrested 23-year-old Angel Montoya and 20-year-old Mayre Rosales. The pair are facing several charges, including attempted murder of a police officer, burglary and robbery.
According to police, an officer was called to the area of Charleston and Nellis boulevards at 1:40 a.m. Monday on a report of an armed robbery of a person.
On the way to the scene, the officer noticed a fight going on outside a business a few blocks from where the original report was made on Charleston Boulevard. The officer saw a man running towards the back of the business. He followed and got out of his patrol car.
The suspect brought out a handgun and fired at the officer, police said. The officer was not hurt and returned fire. The suspect was not hurt and was taken into custody by officers.
The investigation found that Montoya was in the middle of an armed robbery when the officer found him. Police also believe he was involved with at least two earlier armed robberies.
Police stopped a vehicle near the original crime scene. The driver was identified as Rosales. The car was found to be involved in the other robberies, police said.
