LAS VEGAS -- Clark County commissioners have approved a resolution that asks the Nevada Legislature to approve a plan to increase the sales tax to pay for more police.
Sheriff Doug Gillespie went before Clark County commissioners Tuesday asking them to approve a resolution in support of a one-fourth cent sales tax approved by voters years ago but was never put into effect. In 2005, the legislature added wording that limited the use of that money.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is facing a budget shortfall of $46 million.
Some medical providers say they often deal with Hispanic patients who are afraid to seek medical care. It's hoped the opening of a new medical clinic will change that.
