LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police arrested a second man Thursday night in an apparent murder-for-hire plot.

Richard Pearson, 39, of Las Vegas, is facing charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm and violation of conditions of parole. He is being detained at the Clark County Detention Center.

On Nov. 14, Richard Bessey called 911 to report that his vehicle's window had been shot out as he was driving on Interstate 15 near the Valley of Fire. He later realized he had been injured in the attack.

Bessey, who had been shot in the head, was taken to University Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives learned Bessey had started divorce proceedings against his wife and that there was a life insurance policy that ended when the divorce was finalized.

The day after the shooting police arrested Bessey's adopted son, Michael Bessey, 21. He faces charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, battery with the use of a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder.
