LAS VEGAS -- A young Las Vegas man believed to be the head of a large drug-trafficking ring pled guilty Tuesday to several felonies and accepted a life sentence.
Oscar Cavadas, 27, was arrested last year by officers from the Southern Nevada Drug Task Force. They seized 200 pounds of methamphetamine, $300,000 in cash and 11 vehicles. He was one of 14 people charged in connection to the raid.
As part of the agreement made with the District Attorney's Office, Cavadas pled guilty to trafficking in controlled substances, unlawful possession of a firearm and conspiracy to violate the uniform controlled substances act.
"A lot of hard work by a lot of great law enforcement partners took a massive amount of narcotics off the streets," District Attorney Steven Wolfson said. "This was the largest methamphetamine bust ever in Southern Nevada, and now Mr. Cavadas will get an equally serious prison term."
Under the agreement, prosecutors and Cavadas have agreed to a sentence of life in prison. The formal sentencing is set for February. Prosecutors have agreed to ask that Cavadas be eligible for parole in nine years.
