Foreclosed Homeowners Seeking Help as Deadline Approaches

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Deadlines are fast approaching for homeowners looking for mortgage assistance as home loan counselors are trying to beat the clock by helping Nevadans.

The Financial Guidance Center on Jones Boulevard near Sahara Avenue invited homeowners to meet with mortgage counselors. Several homeowners that attended had their loans owned by a company called Seteris.

According to experts, homeowners that have lost their homes to foreclosure need to contact a (HUD) Housing and Urban Development representative before December 31st to see if there eligible for cash payment.

For homeowners looking to stay in their house, the banks legal obligation in providing assistance is nearly at an end.

"I brought in proof of income and proof of disability," homeowner Jo Ann Anderson said.  "I brought in bank statements, bill statements and I don't know what else they want."

Anderson came to the center and met with mortgage counselors looking for solutions and was hoping for an answer from her lender over the phone, but didn't get it as more documents were required.

Several other homeowners looked for assistance from counselors seeking mortgage help with the belief that saving their homes is a possibility.

At the same time, Nevada's hardest hit fund is ramping up government home assistance, where banks are increasing their programs in the race to finish their legal obligation under a nationwide settlement according to experts.

Advisors at the guidance center believe there's a rising sense of homeowner fatigue that have been frustrated of hearing no from banks and government programs in the past.

People who've already been evicted from their home could get cash payment because of a settlement with banks, but there's a deadline of December 31st to apply.
