LAS VEGAS -- The first and only shooting range on the Las Vegas Strip is about to open.

Strip Gun Club is the seventh gun range that has opened this year in southern Nevada, catering to tourists who want to do more than gamble and watch shows on their Vegas vacation.

"It is on the Strip. There is nothing better than that," Ric Truesdell with Strip Gun Club said. "We have a lot of international tourists. They come here from countries that do not get to gamble. They definitely do not own guns or shoot guns, but yet they see these things in movies. This gives them a great opportunity to experience, and a safe experience."

Shooting military-style weapons in Las Vegas has grown in popularity. The Italian gun maker Berretta has plans to open a gun range inside the Shoppes at the Palazzo. County commissioners will battle that issue out in January.

This new range is located in the city of Las Vegas and city officials are behind the trend. Mayor Carolyn Goodman was at Thursday's ribbon cutting.

"What a great place. A whole different experience, and one of a kind because the weapons they have here, I understand are quite unusual." Goodman said.

Goodman, who has her concealed weapons permit, is a straight shooter. She is glad to see the Strip Gun Club open and hopes it triggers business downtown.

"I'm coming back here to get rid of all my aggressions. Anything that goes wrong at the city hall, I'm back here firing up," the mayor said.

The Strip Gun Club has seven lanes, and the staff members are all trained in firearms safety. Packages are available where you can shoot a variety of guns starting at $149.99.
