LAS VEGAS -- Clark County commissioners are weighing the options about what to do with University Medical Center and its finances.
The public hospital has $250 million in uncompensated care costs every year and some think now is the time to change.
However, members of the Service Employees International Union protested outside the Clark County Government Center Wednesday hoping to get their voices heard.
They said talk of privatizing the hospital would do more harm than good.
There's no indication that UMC would be sold, but by taking it private, the county's finances could get back in check.
A consultant hired by the county found UMC's current management structure is ineffective and should be changed.
The county is working on a bill draft to send to the Nevada Legislature next year.
