LAS VEGAS -- A former elementary school teacher will spend at least six years in prison for a DUI crash that caused a teen to lose his leg.

Noel Lardeo was sentenced Wednesday to serve from six years to a maximum of 15 years in prison. She was given credit for time she has already served. Lardeo pleaded guilty in September to the felony drunk driving.

Lardeo was driving drunk on Feb. 5 when she ran into a bus stop and hit 15-year-old Conan Obenchain. He ended up losing his left leg and suffered severe injuries to his right leg. He did not attend the sentencing but his father did and made sure the judge was aware of the pain his family has been through.

"Drunk Drivers are the most dangerous kind of criminal," said Patrick Obenchain. "Because anyone can become their victim at random."

Obenchain says his family is still dealing with more than $80,000 in medical bills. The judge did order Lardeo to pay $82,000 in restitution.
