NV Energy: Scammers Threatening to Cut Power

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- NV Energy said scammers are calling customers to say power will be cut if the person doesn't pay up.

The utility company said they've heard reports of scammers identifying themselves as NV Energy employees, then threatening to cut electricity if the customer doesn't send a cash transfer or credit card payment immediately.

NV Energy said employees never call customers to seek payments. The utility said residents who may have their power disconnected are notified by mail 10 days and then 48 hours before the lights go out.

The company said NV Energy employees and contractors out on the field wear identification badges and are not authorized to receive payments.
