CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Class is in session for freshmen Nevada lawmakers.
Orientation began Wednesday in Carson City for all newly-elected legislators, who are learning the ropes of the legislative process before the 2013 session begins Feb. 4.
Fifteen of the state's 63 lawmakers are true freshmen, thanks to term limits that restrict legislators to serving no more than 12 years in a particular office. Five lawmakers are new to the state Senate but served previously in the Assembly, and one senator is returning after being defeated four years ago.
A bill passed by the 2011 Legislature mandates new lawmakers attend training on legislative procedure, the state budget process and policy issues.
A three-day orientation ends Friday. Two training days are scheduled in December and four in January.
