One Dead Following Motorcycle Accident

LAS VEGAS -- A motorcycle rider is dead after being struck by a vehicle in northeast Las Vegas Sunday afternoon.

Metro Police says the accident happened at 2:14 p.m. on Nellis Boulevard near Cheyenne Avenue in front of the Carefree Mobile Home Park.

Police say a 2012 Ford Focus was traveling northbound along Nellis, when it crossed the median into oncoming traffic. The Ford collided with a 2006 Custom Chopper motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider, a 58-year-old male, died at the scene. The driver of the Ford, 37-year-old Prentiss Bates, did not suffer any injuries. Police arrested Bates for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Clark County Coroner's office will identify the motorcycle rider once next of kin have been notified.
